Zinedine Zidane is one of the great football players who has said what they think about the debate between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. A legend from Real Madrid picked the Portuguese star over the Argentine great in a fight that will go down in history a few years ago.
Without a question, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of the best football players of their generation. Between them, they have won 12 Ballon d’Or awards and many other trophies with their club and country.
Messi added to his reputation by leading Argentina to victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Ronaldo, on the other hand, has had to leave European football and now plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

Even though their recent luck has been very different, Messi and Ronaldo are still controversial in the football world. A lot of famous people in the game have spoken out about the argument over the years, not just fans.
Zidane is one famous football player who has spoken out about the Ronaldo vs. Messi debate in the past. The France legend’s thoughts on which forward he likes better have been found online again.
The former star player for Juventus said that the competition between Ronaldo and Messi was interesting. He later said, though, that he thought the Portuguese star was the best of all time.
As quoted by GOAL, Zidane said:
“I think Cristiano is the best. People want to see him play against Messi because they are rivals. Of course, Ronaldo is amazing. There aren’t any words to describe him. He’s much better than I am, even though I had a great job. “He is the best person ever.”
What Zidane knows about Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
Zidane led Real Madrid for four years, split into two stints. He used to play football for Real Madrid. While Ronaldo was playing at the Santiago Bernabeu for the first time, he played under the Frenchman.
Ronaldo and Zidane played 114 games together and Ronaldo scored 112 goals. During that time, the 50-year-old led Real Madrid to three Champions League wins and a La Liga title.
At some point during his time with Real Madrid, Zidane met Lionel Messi, who used to play for Barcelona. Also, it’s important to remember that they played each other in an El Clasico game in 2005.
In 2004, Lionel Messi made his start for Barcelona as a senior player. In 2006, Zidane said goodbye to football. In this way, they only played one game against each other.
