Former Manchester United Star Boy Mason Greenwood has changed his nationality today and now he will play for one of the biggest national teams
With Jamaica, Mason Greenwood might resume his international career on the right path.
Mason Greenwood has been keeping his international career a secret for a time, but he still has the option to defect from England to Jamaica in order to play for that country in the future.
Manchester United severed ties with the 21-year-old this week. This provides some clarity on Greenwood’s club future, almost eighteen months after his arrest and accusations of attempted rape, controlling conduct, and attack.
The Crown Prosecution Service stated in February 2023 that there was no longer a strong likelihood of conviction due to the dropping of important witnesses’ cases and “new evidence that came to light.” Greenwood asserted erroneously in a statement this week that he was not freed, even though he was not found guilty of the offenses he was charged with in court.
Following a six-month internal evaluation, Manchester United made the decision to assist Greenwood in finding another position. Despite the desire for a permanent move, the teams that have expressed interest thus far would prefer a loan.
According to 90min, one team that would be open to giving Greenwood an opportunity to launch his career is Roma. He would collaborate with Jose Mourinho once more in such scenario. The midfielder has previously had discussions regarding a loan from Atalanta, Inter, Monaco, and teams in Germany, Turkey, and Spain. The Saudi Pro League appears to be continuing to monitor the situation.
Although Greenwood participated in 135 first-team club matches prior to his career being cut short, he has not played much for his country’s senior side.
He earned his England debut against Iceland in a UEFA Nations League match in September 2020. However, he and Phil Foden disobeyed Covid-19 quarantine regulations in the team hotel two days later before leaving for Denmark, which resulted in their humiliating expulsion from the nation.
According to a Daily Mail article, when England manager Gareth Southgate visited with Greenwood’s family and officials of Manchester United in the fall of 2021, he was prepared to put the events in Iceland behind him. It is well knowledge that Southgate will consider young players who claim to have “positive intentions” for a second opportunity. At the meeting, Greenwood supposedly received a strategy on how to return to the England squad as a player rather than a starter.
Greenwood was not selected at that moment, and rumors have it that his camp was not pleased with the publicity he received for being called up but maybe not participating. Greenwood was included to a provisional squad for Euro 2020, however he withdrew due to an undisclosed illness.
According to sources, Southgate was still attempting to bring Greenwood back into the squad as 2022 got underway, with the World Cup as the ultimate aim. All attempts were, however, dashed by Greenwood’s arrest and the charges that followed.
Greenwood has not practiced with a professional club team while Manchester United was on suspension, and he has not participated in a professional match as of yet. His last game was on January 22, 2022.
Even if Greenwood were to get his career back on track and receive a shot on the international arena, The Mail continues, he might not play for England at all. He may have served Jamaica instead because of his family’s background. The Jamaica Football Federation has been watching since 2021, and Greenwood was recently spotted donning the team’s uniform.
As long as Greenwood complied with FIFA’s regulations for international play, he was free to swap sides.
2020 saw a change in the regulations, allowing players to swap teams as long as they had not participated in more than three senior international matches before turning 21. A person was formerly restricted to the nation in which they had participated in a competitive senior international match. When Greenwood made his England debut, he was eighteen years old.
