Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami dealt blow as key star picks up injury, likely to be sidelined for up to 8 weeks
After suffering a knee injury, Argentine player Federico Redondo of Inter Miami will see captain Lionel Messi in the treatment area. The injury sustained by the Argentina U-23 international during the international break will prevent him from playing for up to two months.
Redondo is an Argentine youth player who was signed by Inter Miami from Argentinos Juniors after being rejected by many other teams. The 21-year-old rapidly adapted to his new surroundings and attributed his choice to join the team largely to Lionel Messi’s presence.
Before being called up by manager Javier Mascherano for international action with the Argentina U-23 side, Redondo appeared in four games for the Herons. The midfield player suffered a rupture to his left knee’s lateral collateral ligament and has since returned to his team.
Since the teenage midfielder has assumed a pivotal role in the team, Inter Miami manager Gerardo Martino is dealing with an additional difficulty. Redondo was viewed as Sergio Busquets’ heir, and Martino was able to play him alongside the veteran Spanish player thanks to his agility.
Now that Benjamin Cremaschi, an Argentine-American midfielder, has only recently resumed training after suffering a hernia ailment, Martino will have to look to him. The manager can also rely on players like Yannick Bright, a recent addition, Busquets, Julian Gressel, and Diego Gomez.
Mascherano, who values Redondo as a vital player for his U-23 team, will be closely monitoring the situation. If healthy, Redondo is anticipated to compete for his nation in the July Olympics.
