Former Chelsea star is set to leave Barcelona on a free transfer this summer
Marcos Alonso is poised to depart Barcelona on a free transfer at the conclusion of the season following a two-year stint with the Catalan club.
The 33-year-old has faced a season marred by injuries, grappling with a back problem since December and has been absent from La Liga matches since October.
Having joined Barca from Chelsea in 2022, the Spanish international initially featured prominently in his debut season, participating in 37 matches across all competitions and clinching the La Liga title.
Although he initially signed a one-year contract, Alonso extended his stay until the summer of 2024 with a new deal in January last year. However, persistent injuries have derailed his time at Camp Nou, leading to his imminent departure this summer, as reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Alonso has recently returned from injury and was included on the bench for the 1-0 victory over Las Palmas on March 30 in La Liga, aiming to conclude his Barcelona tenure on a positive note.
Next, Xavi’s team is set to face PSG in the Champions League quarter-final, with the first leg scheduled in Paris on April 10.
