Real Madrid targeting Rodri as midfield priority following Champions League exit

Real Madrid has embarked on planning for the 2025/26 season, shifting its focus to midfield reinforcement following their Champions League exit. According to Cadena SER, Manchester City’s Rodri is the club’s top target to fill the void left by Toni Kroos, with his exceptional skills and Spanish heritage making him an attractive prospect.
With their European campaign now concluded, Real Madrid has gained clarity on its financial situation, including revenue projections and player bonuses. The upcoming FIFA Club World Cup is expected to inject significant funds into the club’s coffers, providing a financial boost for potential signings.
Rodri, the 28-year-old Spanish midfielder and Ballon d’Or contender, is considered the “dream signing” for Real Madrid. Despite his integral role at Manchester City and a contract extending until 2027, the Spanish giants believe a transfer could be negotiated. The presence of Dani Carvajal, a close friend of Rodri’s from their national team days, might facilitate discussions.
However, Real Madrid is mindful of Rodri’s ongoing rehabilitation from a serious knee injury, which could impact his performance upon return. While Rodri remains the top priority, the club is also exploring alternative options, including Martin Zubimendi. Nevertheless, Arsenal appears to have gained an edge in negotiations with the Real Sociedad midfielder, and sources within Madrid harbor doubts about Zubimendi’s suitability.
As Real Madrid intensifies its preparations for the next season, midfield reinforcement remains a key strategic focus, with Rodri being the marquee signing they aim to secure for the Santiago Bernabeu.
