Chelsea are rumored to be considering an audacious transfer approach for Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham as a contingency plan should they lose Cole Palmer.
The English star has emerged as an ambitious target for Chelsea amid concerns that former Blues manager Enzo Maresca might attempt to bring Palmer to Manchester City if he takes over from Pep Guardiola.
According to Fichajes, however, Bellingham has no desire to leave Real Madrid, suggesting this potential deal faces significant obstacles.
It’s also important to note that Palmer is tied to Stamford Bridge until 2033, meaning Chelsea are under no obligation to sell the 23-year-old unless they receive an extraordinary offer.
**Might Cole Palmer rejoin Manchester City under Maresca?**
Palmer began his professional career at Manchester City, and it’s conceivable that Maresca would be interested in reuniting with him down the line.
Journalist David Ornstein has been among those reporting that Maresca has engaged in discussions with City as uncertainty surrounds Guardiola’s future at the Etihad beyond this season.
Maresca recently departed Chelsea, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll complete a move to City this summer, and whether that could trigger an aggressive pursuit of Palmer’s signature.
However, these are all hypothetical scenarios, so Chelsea supporters shouldn’t be overly concerned at this stage. Additionally, targeting Bellingham appears to be an extremely ambitious undertaking.
Fichajes indicates that Bellingham isn’t interested in departing the Bernabeu, and it’s equally difficult to envision Real Madrid being willing to part with him.
The 22-year-old has excelled since joining the Spanish giants, and he may harbor reservations about Chelsea’s direction given their inconsistent Champions League qualification under the current ownership.
Chelsea would also likely face financial challenges in acquiring Bellingham, with another recent Fichajes report suggesting Manchester United would need to pay approximately €150m to secure his services.
