Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal confirms he wants Lionel Messi’s old No.10 shirt as youngster claims ‘nobody in this world would say no’ to great honour
The 16-year-old striker, who has garnered numerous accolades since his introduction to senior football, is on a trajectory reminiscent of Messi’s, a player who has clinched the Ballon d’Or on eight occasions.
Emerging from the esteemed La Masia academy, he is widely predicted to reach the pinnacle of the sport.
Yamal currently dons the No.27 jersey at Barcelona, yet he has expressed his eagerness to take on the prestigious No. 10 shirt from Ansu Fati, who is presently on loan at Brighton in the Premier League.
He remarked, “As you mentioned, Ansu holds the number 10, but if he departs, it would be an esteemed privilege. Any youngster dreams of donning Barcelona’s number 10 jersey. It’s an opportunity no one would turn down, but the club ultimately holds the decision.”
Emulating Messi’s dietary regime at Barcelona, Yamal has been encouraged to integrate more fish into his meals, a tactic that proved advantageous for Messi previously.
Yamal explained, “In 2024, I’ve gained approximately four kilograms and two centimeters in height. I now stand at 1.81 meters tall. Previously, I indulged in whatever food I desired with my friends.
Now, I adhere to the club’s dietary guidelines. I also ensure to stay hydrated and opt for more fish over meat.”
With 40 appearances for Barcelona across various competitions this season, tallying six goals, Yamal has also secured six senior caps for Spain as he aims to secure a spot in their squad for the upcoming European Championship.
