Maresca warns Chelsea not to Sell ‘Future Star’ After Brilliant Display – Player a Key Part of Blues Plans”

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca praised Mykhailo Mudryk’s impressive showing in the October 24 Conference League game against Panathinaikos, where Chelsea claimed a 4-1 win in Athens. This victory followed their 4-2 win over Gent in their opening game of the competition. Goals from Christopher Nkunku, Mudryk, and a double from Joao Felix led the Blues to a commanding performance against the Greek side.

Mudryk, who joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for £88.5 million, has faced challenges securing a regular spot and making an impact. The 23-year-old Ukrainian winger had been criticized for inconsistent performances, but he stood out in the game against Panathinaikos, scoring a goal and providing two assists.

In a productive performance, Mudryk contributed to three Chelsea goals: he set up Joao Felix’s opener in the 22nd minute, scored early in the second half, and assisted Felix’s second goal in the 55th minute. Maresca expressed his satisfaction with Mudryk’s progress, saying, “I’m very happy to see Mudryk there, in that position and scoring that goal,” as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

While acknowledging Mudryk’s slower development compared to other Chelsea wingers, Maresca noted that he is improving. “Mykhailo’s learning process is more slow compared to the other wingers but he is improving,” Maresca said, signaling optimism about Mudryk’s growth potential.

Since joining Chelsea, Mudryk has made 67 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists. Though he’s struggled to adjust to life in west London, his latest performance has inspired hope among fans and staff for a change in form.

Maresca also commended Renato Veiga’s adaptability. The 21-year-old, usually a left-back, played as a left center-back against Panathinaikos and has experience in midfield as well. Praising his versatility, Maresca shared, “Renato, I just said to him inside the changing room, he has played as a center-back, full-back, holding midfielder, attacking midfielder.” Maresca emphasized that having players who can adapt to multiple roles benefits both the team and players, adding, “Today, if you just play one position, I don’t think it’s enough: you need to learn to play more positions.”
