Chelsea Star Player Thiago Silva has announced the Club he will be joining after his departure from Stamford Bridge this morning
Thiago Silva has delivered a scathing farewell to his Chelsea teammates, referring to ‘egos’ in the dressing room.
Silva, 39, will leave Stamford Bridge as his contract expires next month, following four turbulent seasons with the Blues. The Brazilian defender won the Champions League in his debut season, but his third and fourth seasons, in particular, have seen Chelsea slide away from the Premier League’s top.
After witnessing the collapse of former manager Graham Potter last season and Mauricio Pochettino’s problems this season, Silva has advised those who will remain at Chelsea after his departure to put their egos aside for the good of the team.
“These lads need to understand that Chelsea needs to compete for the top spots,” the 39-year-old told Sky Sports. “I believe it will work if we put our egos aside and focus on the team. Unfortunately, if we do not do so, the situation will not improve.
Silva, who has already committed to return former club Fluminense when the Brazilian transfer market opens on July 10, added: “I know what it means to wear a Chelsea shirt, you know. And if I have a message for the lads here today, I hope they recognize that everything they accomplished to come to Chelsea was worthwhile.
“Because we are not having a Chelsea-worthy season. It is not. And I believe they will need to do more next year. If you watch the games, you’ll see that the supporters never deserted the squad. We were in ninth or eighth place, correct? And the supporters were always present.
“They booed us a little at the conclusion of the game, but they’re usually there in the stands, 40,000, 45,000 strong. If we were someplace else, they may hurl rocks at us; we know this happens in our nation.
