“Either they sell him or me because I can’t just play together with him…I would have scored that goal but he opted to pass it back to Onana”: Joshua Zirkzee furious at teammate who opted to pass ball back to Onana instead of assisting him to score yesterday
Manchester United lost their second straight game after missing a number of good chances. They ended up drawing 0-0 away at Crystal Palace.
United got off to a great start and had a lot of chances in the first half. Both Garnacho and Fernandes hit the crossbar.
In the middle of the week, it looked like United had scored enough goals, as they missed every chance to go into halftime 0-0.
The overall level of play stayed good, and chances kept coming. However, Onana made the best save of the second half by making an amazing double stop that kept the score even.
It stayed tied until the 90th minute, with United lamenting missed chances on a day when Erik ten Hag can find many good things in their play.
This is how the players scored:
This is Andre Onana.
During the first half, he did not have to do anything except block an Eze shot. woke up in the second to make a silly double stop with just his reactions. Gives off confidence now.
7.5% for Noussair Mazraoui
Weird how quickly he became another “Mr. Dependable” at Old Trafford. Does his job with little fuss, helps the attack, stays calm with the ball, and stands strong in defense.
Matthijs de Ligt – 7
Every game he gets better, which is scary for the rest of the Premier League. Commanding in defense, a threat from the air in attack, and a rising leader.
David Lisandro Martinez – 7
Had a lucky chance in the box to put United ahead, but Dean Henderson blocked it. Sure of their defense.
8 of Diogo Dalot
Is there another team that has done better under Erik ten Hag? Again superb as the full-back who plays upside down. So good that Ten Hag might not want to get a normal left-footer there!
This is Christian Eriksen.
Some people did not think he should have played against Palace because they were very tough, but he did his job well and moved the ball forward quickly. It makes set pieces much better, which is an extra plus.
The Kobbie Mainoo is 6.5
When his team is ahead and he can play forward and run with it, he looks like a different player. The break in the middle of the week was very helpful.
6.5 for Bruno Fernandes
A long ball from the right wing gave Zirkzee and Garnacho a great chance in the first half. Hit a shot over the bar. Some carelessness in passing.
Amad – 7
When he has the ball, it always seems like something will happen. It goes wide and cuts inside, and it is just hard to protect against in general.
Emilio Garnacho – 6.5
This grade is a result of how well he did. Making great runs that put him in great situations to score, but he missed a lot of great chances when he had them. In the first half, United should have been out of sight.
Joshua Zirkzee – 6.5
When he plays with an attack-minded forward, his link-up play really shines. He set up a great chance for Garnacho and almost scored with his own.
Stand-ins
Marcus Rashford: 6 points
After scoring twice as a striker last week, came to play on the left side. Palace got better after the first half, so they could not do much.
Manuel Ugarte – 6
After coming on, he gave up a few cheap calls but never stopped trying to move the ball forward. Trying to get cameos.
Rasmus Hojlund – 6
He looked rusty when he came back, but he is more straight and a better goal threat than Zirkzee, so United will definitely use him as the season goes on.
