WHAT HAPPENED?
Per multiple reports, ex-Red Devils star De Gea, who has remained a free agent for over a year, is all set to join Serie A side Fiorentina this summer. The custodian has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Italian club as he considerably reduced his salary demand and is all set to earn €2 million (£1.6m/$2m) per season, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The 33-year-old was earlier linked with a move to another Serie A club Genoa, however, the deal reportedly collapsed due to his ‘unrealistic salary expectations’. Several Saudi Pro League and MLS clubs were also keen on signing signing this summer, but none of the deals materialised.
