Chelsea supporters directed explicit chants against co-owner Behdad Eghbali and the broader ownership group during their away loss to Fulham.

Incoming Blues manager Liam Rosenior observed from the stands as his new side fell 2-1 to their west London neighbors. Eghbali was also present alongside the former Strasbourg and Hull City boss in the Craven Cottage stands, while U21s manager Calum McFarlane oversaw proceedings from the technical area.

All three would have been well within earshot of the traveling Chelsea faithful, who began by chanting the name of previous owner Roman Abramovich during the opening period. The atmosphere then turned increasingly hostile toward Eghbali and the current ownership structure.

Around the hour mark, the away supporters could be heard repeatedly singing: “We don’t care about Clearlake, they don’t care about us, all we care about is Chelsea FC.”

There were also brief bursts of “F*** off Eghbali” and “F*** off Eghbali, you’re not wanted here.”

Notably, however, no songs targeting the former Strasbourg and Hull City manager emanated from the away end at Craven Cottage.

The vocal support for Abramovich suggests Chelsea fans are nostalgic for the era when the club pursued elite managers with established histories of winning significant silverware.

It’s reasonable to observe that Rosenior wouldn’t have fit the profile of a typical Abramovich appointment, though the current BlueCo and Clearlake ownership believe the Englishman possesses the necessary qualities. Yet the mood among the skeptical Stamford Bridge faithful would hardly have been lifted by suffering defeat to one of Chelsea’s fiercest local rivals.

A substantial number of Chelsea supporters have expressed deep frustration with the Clearlake and BlueCo ownership groups. Discontent has been steadily building ever since they dismissed the well-regarded Thomas Tuchel during the summer of 2022.

Furthermore, on the same day Rosenior was confirmed as the new manager, the Chelsea Supporters Trust (CST) called for ‘enhanced clarity, accountability, and engagement’ from those running the club.

The CST also disclosed that 53.7 per cent of its membership stated they have ‘no confidence whatsoever’ in the ownership’s football-related decisions, while 36.9 per cent indicated ‘very little confidence’. Additionally, 5.8 per cent of members declared themselves neutral, with merely 4.48 per cent claiming they possess either a ‘reasonable amount of confidence’ or ‘substantial confidence’.

Meanwhile, regarding sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, 43.2 per cent selected the ‘not fit for purpose’ option, with an additional 42.69 per cent asserting there are ‘major deficiencies’ within Chelsea’s current sporting framework.
