“He will have to leave my club we don’t want him here- Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola comments on Kalvin Phillips’ future after Celtic defeat
After Celtic lost, Pep Guardiola talked about Kalvin Phillips’ future.
Pep Guardiola, the boss of Manchester City, talked about Kalvin Phillips’ future after the pre-season loss to Celtic.
City’s pre-season trip to the US got off to a bad start when they lost 4–3 to FC Rangers.
Celtic scored three goals in the first half, with two from Nicolas Kuhn (brace) and one from Kyogo Furuhashi. City was behind 3-1.
City tied the game again thanks to goals from Maximo Perrone and Erling Haaland, but Luis Palma scored the game-winner instead.
In the off-season, results don’t matter as much. No matter what, Guardiola will be upset.
Another player who played in the early hours of this morning was Kalvin Phillips. After the game, Guardiolla talked about his future.

Many people think Phillips will leave the team this summer.
He went on loan to West Ham United last season so that the club could see if he could get back to playing his best.
This didn’t happen, and Phillips’ problems kept getting worse. In an Irons shirt, he didn’t seem confident, just like when he played for City.
Recent rumors say Phillips could go on loan to Everton, and Fulham is also interested.
But for now, he is still at City, and he played against Celtic last night. After the game, Pep talked about Phillips’s possible stay at the club through 2024–25.
“He trains really well and had a great first half,” he said. We didn’t give him more minutes because he had injured himself recently. That being said, I have no idea what will happen, as I always do. He knows what’s going on, and we’ll see.
The Manchester Evening News said that Phillips had a tough game against Celtic and that “he could have been making his situation worse.” He was sometimes “yards off the play.”
From the way he played last night, it doesn’t look like Phillips will be staying at City for 2024/105.
In the past few days, Pep was happy to say that Kevin De Bruyne would stay at the club. But when it came to Phillips, he wouldn’t say for sure, which suggests that he is leaving.
The important thing is that City can get a deal that works for them.
It looks like Phillips is still not likely to stay, but we’ll see what happens.
