“I didn’t leave Chelsea because of Enzo Maresca. I left because of this particular player. The way he treated me in the dressing room was unacceptable. If I’m to return, then he has to leave,” Noni Madueke has revealed, naming the ONE Chelsea player he wants gone before making his comeback

Noni Madueke experienced his inaugural miss from the penalty spot in his professional career, prompting Mikel Arteta to receive advice that the player should be barred from taking future penalties.

The international player representing England was presented with a chance to extend Arsenal’s advantage during their FA Cup match against Portsmouth, but he failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

The North London club had fallen behind to their second-tier opponents after Colby Bishop found the net within the opening three minutes of play.

Nevertheless, Arsenal drew level five minutes afterward when Andre Dozzell inadvertently scored into his own net, before Gabriel Martinelli struck to give the away team the lead.

Just prior to the interval, Madueke was handed a prime opportunity to firmly establish Arsenal’s dominance after Zak Swanson brought him down inside the penalty area.

The winger, who previously played for Chelsea, assumed responsibility for spot-kick duties due to the absence of both Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyökeres, but he sent his attempt off target.

The stop-start nature of Madueke’s approach managed to fool goalkeeper Josef Bursik, yet his weak shot rolled and bounced ineffectively past the far upright.

Dean Ashton shared his analysis with talkSPORT: “Simply attempting to be excessively clever, overly precise – There was no requirement for that. Simply execute the penalty in a straightforward manner.

“What an excellent chance, but because he employs that stuttering technique, his equilibrium is somewhat compromised, as he delays for such an extended period waiting for Bursik’s movement.

“His prolonged wait forces him to somewhat leap to his right, causing him to fall to the side, which results in him pulling the shot beyond the post.

“The technique is terrible when it actually comes to making contact with the ball ultimately because his balance was completely disrupted.

“I simply despise witnessing penalties executed in that fashion. What a squandered opportunity.”

Regarding his recommendation for Madueke going forward, he continued: “Well, you won’t be stepping up for the subsequent one. That’s likely my recommendation.”
