While the board may have been hedging their bets by extending Ten Hag’s deal, which would have paid the Dutchman, it does give the team some security at a crucial time.
The Manchester Evening News says that it has also helped United reach a personal deal with Matthijs de Ligt, who was one of their top summer transfer targets.
Ten Hag made de Ligt captain of Ajax when he was only 19 years old. It wouldn’t be a surprise if de Ligt soon took over as leader of the team at Old Trafford from Bruno Fernandes.
Now that United and Bayern Munich have agreed on a price for the move, De Ligt will definitely be wearing the jersey of his new team soon and will likely be one of their first-choice center backs for the next season.
