Joao Cancelo will become the most HATED player after he has confirmed he will be leaving Barcelona to join Premier league club this summer!
Arsenal is allegedly interested in signing Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo this summer, but Barcelona might not be able to get the full-back on a permanent deal.
Cancelo started a short-term loan at Barcelona for the 2023–24 season after spending the second half of the previous season on loan at Bayern Munich. Under head coach Xavi, he has become an important player for the team.
The 29-year-old has played in 32 La Liga and Champions League games for Barcelona, scoring four goals and setting up four others while also playing well in a variety of defence positions.
Cancelo is contracted to Manchester City until June 2027, but his role is shrinking under boss Pep Guardiola, so it looks like he will be going somewhere else.
In a recent statement, Cancelo said that Manchester City was being rude and denied what Guardiola said about how he behaved while he was at the club.
Reports say that Manchester City is willing to sell Cancelo during the summer transfer window. The player has also said that he wants to make a final move to Barcelona.
But Barcelona doesn’t seem willing to pay the £40 million that Manchester City wants for Cancelo because they don’t have the money.
It is said that the Catalan club doesn’t want to do anything more than loan Cancelo for another season.
If Barcelona’s efforts to sign Cancelo fail, Arsenal is ready to take advantage of the chance and make a move for the full-back.
Arsene Wenger’s assistant manager at Manchester City, Mikel Arteta, worked with Cancelo. The two men know each other from that time.
Arsenal has a history of getting good players from Manchester City. In the summer of 2022, they paid more than £70 million to get Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Cancelo is a good prospect for Arteta and Arsenal because he is versatile, has played at the highest level, and can play in a number of different places on the pitch.
Cancelo has played 154 times for Manchester City across all competitions since signing in 2019. He has scored nine goals and set up 22 others, helping the team win three Premier League titles and one EFL Cup.
