Liverpool FC has just shockingly agreed to a £70M deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid C.F., as reported by Fabrizio Romano
According to Liverpool legend Steve Nicol, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at the club might be in doubt now that Conor Bradley has emerged as a possible alternative.
Real Madrid is interested in Alexander-Arnold, who is currently Liverpool’s vice-captain, but his future is unclear because his contract ends in 2025.
Real Madrid probably won’t make an offer right away, but they could go after Alexander-Arnold if talks about a new deal with Liverpool get stuck.
Fabrizio Romano says that Liverpool has not yet started talking to the 25-year-old about extending his deal.
Liverpool can’t put off talks because they are restructuring their hiring process and will have a new boss in the summer. Real Madrid is also interested, so they can’t afford to wait.
A regarded Liverpool official, Nicol, says that the club should think about selling Alexander-Arnold if Real Madrid is interested this summer.
Nicol agrees that Alexander-Arnold is good at striking, but he doesn’t think he is good at defence. With the rise of Conor Bradley, Liverpool now has a good right back. Bradley isn’t as good attacking as Alexander-Arnold, but he covers the back line better.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold is not known for his defence, but he is great at going forward,” Nicol says. If Real Madrid made an offer of 60, 70, or 80 million euros and you have a young player like Conor Bradley who is a much better defender and also good going forward (though not as good as Alexander-Arnold), then it might be worth looking into, depending on what the next manager wants.
Conor Bradley showed how good he is at attacking by getting a great goal for Northern Ireland against Scotland, which secured their win.
Even though the 20-year-old has only played a few times for Liverpool this season, he has already scored a goal and set up six others, doing a great job while Alexander-Arnold was out. Andrew Robertson, Bradley’s teammate, has praised his abilities and sees him as a rising star.
Because Bradley has been playing well and Alexander-Arnold’s deal is up, Liverpool may think about moving on from the latter.
