“Manchester City Star has left Ethihad Stadium this afternoon the signing of Brazilian international and Girona Star Savinho
There may be problems in top football with the way City were able to sign Savinho from a sister club he had never played for because he had been on loan at another sister club, according to Collin Millar of The Athletic on X. The City Football Group includes all three of these teams.
In 2022, Troyes paid a record €12.5 million (£10.5 million or $13.6 million) for Savinho. But he didn’t help the Ligue 1 team move up the table in France. Instead, he went straight on loan to PSV Eindhoven. In 2022–23, Troyes were demoted while he was away. The Brazilian then went on loan to Girona for 2023–24 and scored 19 goals and set up another 19 to help the team make it to the Champions League. At the same time, Troyes was relegated twice in a row. Manchester City, the biggest club in the CFG, has paid £33.7 million ($43.5 million) to get him.
The most well-known multi-club model in the world is the City Football Group. Since it began in 2013, 11 people from four countries have joined, along with a few other “partner clubs” that the CFG does not directly own. That wasn’t the first time a player from the CFG went from one team to another without playing for the new team. In 2016, Aaron Mooy moved from Melbourne City to Manchester City. He was loaned out right away, but was then sold the next year. It took three years for Mix Diskerud to join Manchester City from New York City.
In 2024–25, Manchester City will try to win their fifth straight Premier League title and further their already unmatched domination of English football. Some say that Pep Guardiola is a goal for the England national team and that his contract ends next summer. This means that the end of a wonderful chapter may be closer than many people thought.
