Shocking News as La Liga confirm length of Lewandowski and Cancelo bans ahead of El Clasico – they could be out of El Clasico Vs Real Madrid
La Liga has officially confirmed that Robert Lewandowski and Joao Cancelo will each serve a one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards, ensuring their participation in the upcoming match against Real Madrid.
Despite controversy surrounding the circumstances of their bookings in the recent Las Palmas game, both players received their fifth yellow cards in that match. Speculation arose that they intentionally sought the bookings to serve their suspensions in the less important fixture against Cadiz, thus securing their availability for the crucial match against Real Madrid.
According to La Liga’s disciplinary rules, such conduct typically results in a doubled suspension. However, league officials reviewed the incidents and found insufficient evidence to support the claim that Lewandowski and Cancelo deliberately sought the yellow cards. Consequently, they will each serve only a one-match ban and will be able to participate in the pivotal clash against Real Madrid.
Lewandowski received his yellow card for delaying his departure from the field during a late substitution, while Cancelo’s was for a tactical foul in the closing stages of the game. Despite the controversy, the league deemed the incidents less severe compared to previous cases where intentional bookings were evident.
In contrast, Barcelona will be without center-back Inigo Martinez for the Cadiz fixture as he also received a yellow card in the Las Palmas match. Unlike Lewandowski and Cancelo, there were no doubts about Martinez’s intentions behind the caution.
As the match against Real Madrid approaches, the decision regarding Lewandowski and Cancelo’s availability provides a boost for both their teams. Real Madrid currently holds a significant lead at the top of La Liga, making them favorites for the highly anticipated encounter with just one round of fixtures remaining before the showdown.
