“The behaved so selfish knowing that Cole Palmer is the Penalty taker and the went to take the ball away from him- Dele Alli slams two Chelsea stars for selfish display against Everton
Dele Alli criticized Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke for their behavior during Chelsea’s dominant win against Everton.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team dominated Everton at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, as Cole Palmer delivered an outstanding performance with four goals, including a flawless hat-trick.
Jackson and Blues academy graduate Alfie Gilchrist also found the back of the net as Chelsea’s impressive streak of success carried on, leaving Everton disappointed and disheartened upon their return to Goodison Park.
However, Chelsea’s impressive 6-0 victory was slightly marred by a strange disagreement between teammates Jackson and Madueke following the awarding of a penalty in the second half.
The two individuals engaged in a heated dispute regarding the responsibility of taking the penalty kick. Neither of them was willing to yield, even when Chelsea captain Conor Gallagher intervened and handed the ball to the designated penalty-taker, Palmer.
Palmer confidently scored his penalty, solidifying his position as one of the Premier League’s leading goalscorers. However, Jackson chose not to partake in the celebration.
Everton midfielder Dele, who has not played this season due to personal and injury issues, expressed his dissatisfaction with Jackson and Madueke, suggesting that they displayed immaturity.
‘I believe Pochettino will be quite disappointed about it,’ he mentioned during Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football. One notable aspect about him is his genuine concern for players as individuals, which is quite selfless.
‘It’s great to see players eager to score, but it’s important to focus on doing so within the game.’ If you’re not the one taking charge, it’s best to give others the space they need.
I didn’t witness them executing it in the final moments against Manchester United when the stakes were high.
‘It’s evident that Mauricio is displeased with the situation.’ They’re inexperienced players, so they will gain valuable lessons from this.
The former England player remarked: ‘To me, this is a clear indication of their maturity.’ I didn’t witness any eagerness from them to step up and take the crucial penalty against United.
Pochettino, speaking to Sky Sports after the match, expressed his frustration at witnessing a heated exchange between two of his players on the pitch.
But he was thrilled with Chelsea’s exceptional performance, highlighted by a remarkable hat-trick from summer signing Palmer in just 29 minutes of the first half.
‘We played some impressive matches, but today I am delighted with the performance, and we had a fantastic start to the game,’ Pochettino said.
‘We demonstrated a unique strategy against Sheffield United and we discussed during the week how we made improvements in various aspects – today’s match was flawless.’
Regarding Palmer’s performance, the Blues manager stated: ‘To be honest, when we brought him on board, he showed immense talent.’
He is excelling, performing admirably, and has seamlessly adjusted. The team experienced an incredible impact right from the start. I am absolutely thrilled for him and the team.
Chelsea gained ground on their European qualification rivals with a resounding victory over Everton. However, it was a difficult evening for Sean Dyche’s side, as they continue to occupy 16th place in the Premier League, with only a two-point cushion above the relegation zone.
