VERY SAD NEWS has been announced for Ex Manchester United Star as he goes off injured 20 minutes into his debut match
Raphael Varane was playing his first game for Como in the Coppa Italia. His team was playing Sampdoria away from home.
Injuries cut short Varane’s night after only 20 minutes.
While the World Cup hero was able to walk off, he looked like he was in pain as he was led to the sidelines by Como’s medical staff.
MORE STORIES ABOUT UNITED
It is still not clear what kind of injury Varane has, but it is clear that this is not a good start for the former Manchester United back.
Raphael Varane’s fitness record
The fact that Varane was not very fit and paid a lot of money were both reasons why Manchester United decided not to extend his deal.
He played in 22 Premier League games in 2021/22, and 24 the next year. Last season, it was 22 more.
Still, he made the fewest Premier League starts (16) in 2023–24, which was less than half of the team’s games.
Varane could have started 113 games during his three seasons at Manchester United. He missed the first one in 2021/22 because he was not introduced until the game started.
Varane could have started 113 Premier League games, but he only did so 58 times, just over 50%.
Even though Varane’s replacement, Leny Yoro, has had a rough start due to injuries, the choice to let him go was not always the wrong one.
His own early illness at Como supports the idea that United did the right thing by letting him go, no matter how big or small the result is.
