Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag leaves on private jet after emotional airport farewell following Man United sacking
After Monday’s relieving of his responsibilities as Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag waved farewell to Manchester with a kind hug for an airport staff member.
Ten Hag was let go following the team’s poor 2-1 loss to West Ham at the London Stadium, therefore ending his turbulent two-and- a-half-year career and putting United in a dismal 14th place in the Premier League ranks.
Ruud van Nistelrooy was named temporary manager by the club, and in a statement they said, “Erik ten Hag has resigned his post as United men’s first-team manager.” Appointed in April 2022, Erik guided the team to two domestic medals; he won the FA Cup in 2024 and the Carabao Cup in 2023. We wish Erik luck for the future and appreciate all he has done throughout his time with us.
Ten Hag was observed withdrawing to the rear seat of a car leaving United’s Carrington training base following the news and swiftly brought to Manchester Airport to catch a trip back to his native the Netherlands. He got aboard the jet and spent a minute bidding a fond farewell to the airport staff before the aircraft left Monday afternoon for the Netherlands.

Commenting on the sacking, United great Neville said he was not surprised by Ten Hag’s decision to be sacked, pointing out the inevitable nature of the action taken following the team’s 3-0 home loss to Tottenham last month.
After Ten Hag’s resignation was confirmed, Gary Neville offered his observations on Sky Sports, saying: “That game against Tottenham a few weeks ago was the type of game where I thought I had seen this before and I know how it finishes.
“It was clearly a pretty awful day for United and Erik ten Hag, and it startled me personally as well. It is getting worse, but I believe it was the game when everyone felt the season might start to kick on and you sense they could rebound from a challenging start. Generally, I believe the owners have chosen to dismiss Ten Hag based on the difficulties with the outcomes and performance standards; so, I do not think anybody would be really surprised.”
