Manchester City Star Julian Alvarez ‘asks to leave Man City’ after rejecting four-year contract with Chelsea and PSG among clubs interested in £70m striker
WHAT CAME ABOUT?
El Chiringuito says that Alvarez turned down a new four-year deal at Manchester City because he wants to take on a new task. Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are both thought to want the World Cup winner, but they will have to pay at least £70 million (€81 million or $89 million) to get him from Manchester City.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
City would suffer a huge loss if they lost Alvarez. The Argentina international has been very important to Pep Guardiola, even though he hasn’t been as well known as Haaland or Kevin De Bruyne. Since he joined City in 2022, he has helped them win the Premier League by making big plays as a replacement or when their star player, a Norwegian, isn’t playing.
DID YOU KNOW?
Alvarez has already won the FA Cup, League Cup, world cup, Copa America, and the Premier League. He is 24 years old. He has had a very good career and helped set up 32 goals for City in 54 games last season.
WHERE DO ALVAREZ AND CITY GO FROM HERE?
Alvarez can only wait for his chance to sign with a new team. The deal he signed lasts until 2028, and he will go to pre-season with the rest of his team and then go on tour in the US.
