Manchesyer Utd Erig Ten Hag is set to announce the signing of two star players today at the Old Trafford Stadium

Manchester United is about to make two big moves as Ineos continues to make their mark on what looks like an ever-changing Old Trafford group.
United will spend a total of £51.5 million on Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt. Both players are familiar to Erik ten Hag from their time at Ajax. The signing papers should be complete before United’s Premier League season starts on Friday night (8pm) against Fulham. It is not clear if Mazraoui and De Ligt will be in that opening scene, but their additions will help in the middle and long run.
After the summer, it was clear where United wanted to make the most changes. At one point, Ineos was “open” to adding up to three new center backs, but any more additions will rely on how many players they sell. They are also looking for a left back and a holding midfielder to possibly replace Casemiro.
Based on how things have turned out, Casemiro looks good again, and United may decide to delay their plan to replace him. The team’s shrinking budget might be the deciding factor, but Ten Hag and his staff need to come up with a plan B anyway, since Casemiro will not be able to play in every game.
That would be too much for a defensive player ten years younger than him who is always on the move. But Ten Hag might want to look at an in-house option as a last resort.
Lisandro Martinez, please come forward. Ten Hag has repeatedly ruled out the idea of using Martinez as a middle shield, but he did play that role for Ajax on occasion, and United have other players who can help make up for Martinez’s supposed lack of running ability in that role.
Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay, and Mason Mount all have a lot of that character. Martinez would give United the toughness and passing range they might not have when Casemiro is hurt, banned, or moved. He would start with one or more of the above players.
