“I will stay at Barcelona on only one condition” – Fc Barcelona Manager Xavi sets conditions to continue as Barcelona manager beyond this season
Recently, there has been much talk over Xavi Hernandez’s future at Barcelona as the board, headed by Joan Laporta, tries to convince the former midfield player to stay on as manager.
It was widely known that Xavi intended to leave Barcelona at the end of the current campaign. He justified his decision by stating that everyone would benefit from a change in dynamics.
Since then, the team’s performance and record have significantly improved, and their triumphs over Napoli and Atletico Madrid, in particular, seem to have convinced Laporta and company to stick with the 44-year-old.
The two parties are reportedly planning to meet for talks the following month after the pivotal matchup with Real Madrid, with Laporta trying to persuade Xavi to stay on the team longer.
Even though Xavi was initially adamant about sticking with his choice, SPORT now indicates that he might not completely rule out the prospect of staying over the current season.
Any prospective continuation would be subject to the club legend’s specified requirements being met.
The most important of these requirements is Xavi’s wish for more authority over sports affairs, which Deco currently presides over.
Xavi would also want guarantees that money would be available for summer transfers so that quality additions could be made to the team to strengthen it.
The addition of a standout winger and a top-tier pivot are especially important to Xavi’s plans for the team because they both reduce the dangers of starting a new season with the current group of players.
If Barcelona is forced to pursue free transfers and budget purchases or is unable to secure big signings,
Xavi would think twice before choosing to continue as manager after realising the obstacles and constraints that might prevent the squad from moving forward in such a situation.
